DOUG WILSON

MUFON CHIEF INVESTIGATOR

Douglas Wilson first became interested in UFOs in 1968 when, at the age of 10, he was required to bring newspaper articles to school for “current events.” The articles he presented kept his fellow students apprised of the workings of the University of Colorado UFO Project, better known as the Condon Committee. At the close of the study, Douglas begged his mother to take him to buy a copy of “The Scientific Study of Unidentified Flying Objects,” the official findings of the Colorado Study. Although only 11, Douglas realized that the “scientific study” was far different from the study’s conclusion.

Later, as a teenager in 1977, Douglas had his first UFO sighting while riding with a Missouri State Highway Patrol Officer when the two observed a 30-foot, red, glowing disc at less than a quarter-mile distance. Later that year, during a UFO flap in Northwestern Missouri, he observed the falls of “Angel Hair.” These two events started Douglas on, what has become a 42-year fascination with UFOs.

From 1996 to 2006, Douglas took frequent trips to the Nevada desert to investigate and study the area around Rachel Nevada and the northeastern approaches to AREA 51. After 30 years of privately investigating UFOs and AREA 51, Douglas joined MUFON in 2007. After two years as a Field Investigator he was promoted to the position of Colorado Chief Investigator in 2009, followed by his appointment to Colorado State Director in 2011. After eight years of helping to grow the Colorado Chapter into a stable, thriving success, Douglas was selected to be the MUFON Chief Investigator in 2019.
